My sweetheart,
We both know that if you saw all of these nice things I have to say about you, your ego would be astronomical. I am laughing as I write this because if you saw these letters, you would agree with me. It’s one of my favorite things about us…we laugh at ourselves, and we aren’t afraid to tease.
I was thinking of your independence and strength today. They have always been attractive qualities to me. You are not dependent, nor are you a pushover. You fight for what you believe in, and you own your life with confidence and purpose.
But even though you are independent, you are not afraid of deep connection. You desire to be close to me, and you make every effort to be. You close the distance with self respect and sweetness. You don’t paw at me, and you don’t beg. You are appreciative of my love, but don’t ask much of me. We have our own lives, interests, and friends, and I love that about us. We are not attached at the hip, nor are we completely reliant on one another. And at the same time, we could be if we needed to be. Because wherever I turn, you’re there. You are fiercely protective of me, and you care for me so well. I hope you would say the same of me.
I realize now that I have to be careful of the wording I use here. If by some random chance you ever saw these letters online, you might be able to pick up on my cadence, my vocabulary, my love. I do tend to use some of these phrases and words with you. But I don’t believe you will ever figure it out. You’ll think it’s some other crazy boy and some other amazing girl, and you won’t know that I am that crazy boy and you, my sweetheart, are that amazing girl.
You are an incredible human being, and I am so blessed to know you and care for you.
